Frequently Asked Questions
Everything you need to know about Book Reading Habit.
Is Book Reading Habit really free?
Yes! The core features — tracking books, logging reading sessions, iCloud sync, and custom shelves — are completely free. PRO adds reading goals, detailed insights, note exports, and integrations with Slack, Telegram, and webhooks. If you want to try PRO, the annual plan includes a 3-day free trial.
Do I need to create an account?
No account needed. If you choose to sync, your data syncs through your Apple ID and iCloud. We never see your reading data — it stays on your devices.
Does it work offline?
Absolutely. Track reading sessions, add books, and use all features without internet. Changes sync automatically when you're back online.
Can I import my existing book list?
Yes! You can scan ISBN barcodes, search by title/author, or add books manually. You can also import from a Goodreads CSV or a Book Reading Habit CSV file.
What's included in PRO?
PRO unlocks unlimited books, reading goals, detailed book statistics, reading insights (when you read best, average session length, reading speed), note exports (PDF, HTML, Markdown, plain text), and integrations with Slack, Telegram, and webhooks.
Can I use Siri to control sessions?
Yes. You can start and stop reading sessions with Siri voice commands. It also works with the Shortcuts app, so you can build custom automations.
What are reading streaks?
A streak counts how many consecutive days you've logged a reading session. Miss a day and it resets — but shields can help. You start with one shield, and earn more as you hit milestones (7 days, 30 days, and so on). If you miss a day and have a shield available, it protects your streak automatically. You can hold up to five shields at a time.
How do daily reading goals work?
You set a daily target in minutes — say, 10 or 15 minutes. Every day you hit that minimum, it counts toward your streak and your weekly progress. It's about building the habit, not racing through books.
Can I track physical books?
Yes. Book Reading Habit works with any format — physical books, ebooks, or audiobooks. You search for the book, add it to your library, and track your sessions regardless of how you're reading it.
What reading insights can I see?
Each book gets its own stats page with average session length, reading pace (pages per session), your longest session, a progress curve, engagement patterns, and a reading heat map. You also get an estimated finish date based on your reading speed.
How do reminders work?
You can set daily reminders to read at a specific time. It's a gentle nudge — a notification that helps you remember to show up. You choose the time that works best for your routine.
How is Book Reading Habit different from Goodreads, StoryGraph, or Bookly?
Book Reading Habit focuses on the reading habit itself, not on being a social book network. Where Goodreads and StoryGraph center on rating, reviewing, and discovering books in a public community, Book Reading Habit is a private, session-based tracker: you time your reading, set daily goals, build streaks, and keep everything on your own devices via iCloud with no account and no social feed. It is closest in spirit to Bookly, but it is a native Apple app across iPhone, iPad, and Mac with Siri Shortcuts, widgets, and note export.
What makes it good for actually building a reading habit?
It is built around the habit rather than the catalog. A focus timer makes each session deliberate, daily goals and streaks (with streak shields) keep you consistent, and reading insights show when and how you read best. There is no social pressure or feed — just your own progress, tracked privately.
Does Book Reading Habit work on Mac and iPad?
Yes. Book Reading Habit is a native app for iPhone, iPad, and Mac, and your library, sessions, notes, and goals stay in sync across all of them through iCloud — no separate account needed.
